Within the framework of the educational process, an orientation meeting on writing a course paper was held. The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize higher education students with the basic requirements for course papers, their structure, the procedure for preparation, formatting, and defense in accordance with academic standards.
The meeting was opened with a welcoming address by the Head of the Department of Pedagogy and Educational Management named after Bohdan Stuparyk, Professor Liubov PROKOPIV. She emphasized the course paper as an important stage of the educational process that involves students’ independent research activity and contributes to the development of their academic culture, critical thinking, and skills of working with scholarly sources.
Doctor of Philosophy, Assistant Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Educational Management named after Bohdan Stuparyk, Taras PASKA, outlined the main aspects of organizing and completing a course paper. He drew attention to the principles of selecting a research topic, the importance of clearly formulating the aim and objectives, and maintaining logical consistency in writing the paper. The necessity of an analytical approach to reviewing academic sources, substantiating the research methodology, and using relevant empirical and theoretical data was emphasized. Issues of effective interaction between students and academic supervisors, as well as planning the stages of research implementation, were also discussed.
Doctor of Philosophy, Assistant Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Educational Management named after Bohdan Stuparyk, Mariana DERENIUK, addressed the requirements for writing and formatting course papers, focusing on their structure and content. The specifics of the title page, table of contents, features of writing the introduction, main body, and conclusions, as well as formatting the list of references, were examined in detail. Special attention was paid to the technical parameters of the paper, including compliance with academic writing norms, citation standards, and rules of bibliographic description. The importance of academic integrity in the process of writing course papers was emphasized, including the prevention of plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
During the meeting, the procedure for defending course papers and the criteria for their assessment were also considered. Emphasis was placed on the importance of thorough preparation for the defense, the ability to clearly and convincingly present the main research findings, and to justify the relevance of the study.
The orientation meeting contributed to the formation of students’ systematic understanding of the requirements for course papers, awareness of their role in the educational process, and highlighted the importance of academic integrity as a key principle of academic culture.
