A contest of essays and video-essays on the topic “Our Freedom Depends on Press Freedom” was held, organized by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Journalists’ Union and the Ivano-Frankivsk Center for Journalistic Solidarity on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
The contest united young people to reflect on the role of independent media in a democratic society. Its goals included developing critical thinking, improving media literacy, and fostering skills in fact-checking and combating disinformation. Participants had the opportunity to creatively express their views on the importance of freedom of speech through written essays or short video essays.
Veronika Shkurley and Tetiana Tokar, second-year Bachelor’s students of the Faculty of Philology, actively participated in the contest, presenting their perspectives on the topic through the lens of their professional knowledge and civic stance. Their submissions were prepared under the guidance of Dr. Nataliya Basarab, PhD in Philosophy, Assistant of the Department of Pedagogy and Educational Management named after Bohdan Stuparyk.
